RESILIENCE, HOPE, AND THE POWER OF COMMUNITY

The demands of active-duty service and single parenting are rigorous, but for Samantha, an active-duty single parent moving to Washington, D.C., those challenges were eased by the power of community.

Initially confused about the Child Care Aware program during her PCS, Samantha reached out to the Operation Child Care Project for help. "Once I connected with them, everything became clearer, and they walked me through the process step by step," she shared.

"These benefits are designed for us, and with a little persistence, you can access the support you deserve."

Operation Child Care not only assisted with paperwork but also instilled a sense of hope. Samantha noted, "Knowing that others had successfully been helped before made everything feel manageable."

Now, she’s eager to spread the word and encourage other military families to seek the same support. "Keep pushing," she advises.

"Someone, somewhere, has been where you are and made it out the other side. Keep looking for your community."

"The need for accessible, reliable, and quality childcare is not just a convenience or a nice to have—it is essential to those serving our Nation." Samantha expressed. "I’m grateful for the efforts of those working tirelessly to expand childcare options for military families. I look forward to the day when programs and subsidies will also include options like au pairs and nannies."

As we continue moving forward, Samantha’s story becomes an example of resilience, hope, and the power of community. We truly are better together.
