Coast Guard Safe Homes Initiative
The Coast Guard's Safe Homes Initiative is a service-wide effort to ensure our housing units are free from environmental health risks. The initiative focuses on units co-located near lighthouses and those with a history of lead, asbestos, and radon findings.
The Relocation Assistance Program is intended to assist members become familiar of their new community and the resources available.
Each Transition/Relocation Manager (TRM) can assist active duty members in scheduling a Transition Assistance Seminar. This mandatory seminar is intended to assist transitioning active duty members in preparing for the civilian job market and prepare members with Career Readiness Standards. These seminars cover such topics as resume writing, interviewing techniques, salary negotiations, and successful attire strategies. Each seminar will also familiarize the member with the benefits they may be entitled to as a separatee or retiree. Spouses of active duty members are highly encouraged to attend, however travel funding is not provided.
Coast Guard Mutual Assistance (CGMA)
CGMA is the official relief society of the US Coast Guard. While CGMA works closely with the Coast Guard, it is an independent nonprofit charitable organization. Established and operated by Coast Guard people for Coast Guard people, CGMA provides a way to extend compassion to one another in times of need. It serves as a vital financial safety net, promoting financial stability and general wellbeing, fostering high morale, and encouraging a sense of loyalty to the Coast Guard.
Navigating Coast Guard PCS is LCDR Mark Tatara’s capstone project as part of his Instructional Systems Technology master’s degree program at Indiana University. The goal of the project and website is to provide various performance improvement tools in one centralized location to enhance the performance of members, dependents, and family members in the execution of the Permanent Change of Station move process.
